Hi there dear Empaness supporters and gemstone jewellery fanatics

I love the vibrant colour of Carnelian, between orange and red is my favourite !

A small, glassy and translucent stone, Carnelian is a variety of Chalcedony, which is a type of Quartz.

The colour of Carnelian ranges from pale pink, through orange and red to a dark rust brown. It is  named from the Latin word meaning “flesh."

Of course it is most recognised when in striking orange and red-orange colour.

This gemstone is thought to bring success in business ventures ! - perhaps because of its clarification on perception and sharpening of concentration. It has tremendous life force.

Throughout the ages it has been held that it can cleanse the blood and also improves ones outlook. It has been believed for a long time that the carnelian gemstone reduces bleeding and helps heals wounds.

Judy Hall: “ This stone helps you trust yourself and your perceptions. It gets to the bottom of what makes you tick, overcomes negative conditioning and encourages steadfastness.”

The Egyptians thought that the Carnelian gemstone had special powers in afterlife. They  believed that Carnelian amulets would help the passage of the soul into the next world. Various types of Carnelian jewellery have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs.

In medieval Europe, Carnelian jewellery was worn to provide protection against evil and also ensure continuation of hope, good luck and comforts.

Also in Asia, it was worn as jewellery because of its beauty and powerful effects on the user.

It is often recommended to be worn as a pendant or necklace or close to the skin for instance as a bracelet.

Most references quote Its effects on the base and/or sacral chakras.
