Julie's Friday Crystal Ball 26 July 2019

It's been more than two weeks since my last post but lets take a look at Rhodolite today - I’ve been working with this gemstone lately so I’ve been enquiring on it's attributes and history a little bit.

It has a beautiful colour, almost like Ruby I think, though perhaps a bit darker and not as violet. Not as purple as Amethyst. Typically Rhodolite doesn’t have a lot of inclusions and can be very clear without cloud or cavities.

Apparently it is a Garnet, which is one of the oldest gemstones in human history. Garnet is silicate based. The word “garnet” derives from the Latin  “Garanatus” which means “seedlike”. The seed in mind is said to be the pomegranate. It does quite look like the red seeds of this fruit.

Though Rhodolite it is of a lighter colour than many Garnets and has more purple in it than most.

“Rhodolite”  is from the Greek word, "rhodon", meaning rose. Named so because of the colour.

It is mostly found in the Eastern African states of Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. Also Brazil, India, Norway, United States and Sri Lanka.

Rhodolite is often said to have gentle energy -  a warm, trusting and sincere stone. It reportedly encourages contemplation, intuition and inspiration. It interacts with the base chakra.

Like Carnelian, Rhodolite is known as a gemstone of commitment. It may encourage one to trust, and have an open heart. It may increase self-confidence and self belief.
